Julie Sass – Portal Elementary

I have been a public school teacher for 20 years and going strong. I am also a parent of 3 kids that are currently attending public schools and have been their entire lives.

Public schools are creating so many amazing opportunities for students to help them get a better understanding of what they want to do in their future.

My oldest will be graduating from high school this May and has had the opportunity to be a part of the medical academy through his high school: he takes classes on a hospital campus and is now doing rotations where he can see surgeries, shadow doctors and other medical professionals, and is able to ask questions as they come up.

Next school year, my daughter is getting the opportunity to be a part of the zoo academy, which will allow her to take classes at the Henry Doorly Zoo and get hands-on experiences. These opportunities would not be possible if they didn’t attend public schools.
